Cannabis use is on the rise in the United States. A 2018 study notes that, while cannabis use among teens has decreased, American adults are increasingly using cannabis on the daily. According to Forbes, the international cannabis sector is estimated to be worth $7.7 billion. It’s projected hitting $31.4 billion by 2021.

The business is booming partly because cannabis can be a versatile form of medication. A number of studies are finding that cannabis provides the potential to assistance with a number of medical conditions, including anxiety, chronic pain, and epilepsy.

If marijuana is legal in your state and you’re looking to try it, although not sure which strains best meet your requirements, we’ve got you covered. Take a look at our help guide to marijuana strains below.

Exactly what is a marijuana strain? If you’ve read a bit about marijuana, or maybe you enter most dispensaries, you could see the words indica, sativa, and hybrid. Generally, many people divide marijuana into these three categories.

Indica, which comes from the Hindu Kush mountains of India, is considered to get a relaxing effect on an individual. Sativa has a more energizing effect, while hybrid is a mixture of the two.

Many skilled professionals, however, are reconsidering the indica, sativa and hybrid categories. Based on Amos Elberg, head of data science at Confident Cannabis, these terms are essentially meaningless.

“We see examples of all cannabis products tested through our partner labs, so when we look at all of the data, particularly of the chemical makeup of flower, we see no identifiable characteristics which can be consistent with indica, sativa, or hybrid,” he explains.

“Essentially people are using these terms as catchalls for effect, but they’re not every consistent with those effects. Some indica makes some people wired, not couch-locked, as an example.”

In other words, people shouldn’t be alarmed when a reportedly energizing sativa strain has more of a mellowing effect, or maybe an indica strain ensures they are feel more bubbly and excitable.

Beyond indica, sativa, and hybrid, dispensaries might divide the kinds of cannabis they may have into strains. Strains are essentially different breeds of cannabis, and they’re bred to possess specific effects on the user.

However if the terms indica, sativa, and hybrid are essentially useless categorizations, are strain names also meaningless?

Not quite, says Elberg. “Not all seeds that are sold underneath the same name are genetically identical, or perhaps necessarily related. Some producers may choose to develop a strain name essentially as a branding exercise, or identify their product with the existing name because they believe the product matches characteristics the market expects from product sold under that name,” Elberg explains. You can find, however, still consistencies among product sold under specific strain names, Elberg adds.

“In general, for your less frequent names, product sold by different vendors is commonly pretty consistent,” he notes. “For the most typical strain names, however, a wider selection of different products are sold.”

If you purchase product coming from a quality source, the strains needs to be more or less consistent. Remember, however, that every person reacts differently to cannabis.

How to choose a strain – The strain you choose depends upon what effect zhzvmn desire. As mentioned previously, cannabis has a range of medical uses, however, many strains are better for several conditions than the others.
